Weekly Writing #2

World War 2 Communication

In the 2nd week of our First Year Seminar we learned about letters and communication throughout out the war. I found a lot of the stuff we learned about interesting. In the the beginning of the week we read an article about Communication (Ken Burns), and usually in high school when we had to read PBS articles I thought they were really boring. However I actually really enjoyed reading these articles. I found them really interesting, and I learned quiet a lot of things especially from Letters & Diaries. I also thought the article about propaganda was really fascinating. The posters that they used to get people to join the war or jobs, I find really catch your eye.

The second day of class this week I thought was the best day and most interesting and fun. We got to take a look at all of the letter that Muhlenberg Alum. We partnered up and read the letters that they wrote to friends, family, and even staff of Muhlenberg. When reading the letter it shows how much letter writing has changed. The letters that we read were very formal, and whenever I write a letter now it is very casual and almost just a conversation. I also thought it was really entertaining to see all of the different handwriting styles and how it evolved into it being typed. Overall I found this week very interesting.
