This week in our FYS we started out with the last bit of our presentations. I really enjoyed listening to people thoughts on letter writing during World War 2. The presentations took most of the class time, so we were unable to start anything new.
The second day of class this week we started with the short stories that week signed up for the week before. The short story that I signed up for was called “The Gift.” It was letters sent between the adoptive family and the birth mother, and some letters from the adoption agency in New York. Although this is not a true story, while reading it I feel like it could have been. There were no dramatic things that happened that made the story seem unreal. After reading it, in class we grouped up and used a white board to list out the story. We started with main characters, certain quotes, and conflicts between characters. I think this activity was really fun, and a way of getting more involved with class.
The rest of class we talked about our new project. It is a creative writing assignment. The task is to create a story using the Epistolary Form. I’m not sure what I am going to write about, but I have some idea that I think could work. In class we also signed up for Letters of Historical Note. I picked “Benjamin Franklin – Silence Dogood #1.” Then we picked another Letter of Note. I chose “I love my wife. My wife is dead.” Then to end it we started to think about topics for our final project.
